Mafwe Living Museum DAY TRIP

Depart from your Lodge at 8am and proceed to a village ( Mafwe Living Museum ) on the Kwando River near Singalamwe ( Kongola area ) Learn about the Mafwe peoples fascinating traditional way of life as subsistence farmers, cattle herders, hunters and fishermen. The Living museum is a source of income for the Mafwe, who lived as subsistence farmers before and is also a school for traditional skills and values for the children who are actively involved in the activities at the museum. You can expect to observe and experience the following: Traditional dancing and singing Traditional attire Traditional food (should you wish to try some) Fishing from Makoro’s (dugout canoes made from local trees) Blacksmith, pottery, jewellery making and much more. Return to Lodge at approximately 5pm. NB: Clients should be prepared for a hot day, flies and insects around the villages because of the cattle kraals. It is recommended that you carry insect repellent and sunscreen. Rates for 2017: (Minimum 4 people) PER PERSON This includes vehicle transfer, guide, picnic lunch, light refreshments and 15% VAT
IMPORTANT NOTICE:A portion of your fee will be donated to the village and entertainment groups by the guide Should any guest wish to donate anything to the village, it MUST be directed through the guide. Suggested donations: old clothes, school utensils,pencils/pens/note pads/books/blankets NO food or cash donations please NB: Clients should be prepared for a hot day, flies and insects around the villages because of the cattle kraals – recommend everyone carries insect repellent and sun screen. Should anyone wish to extend this village visit to include sitting around the fire in the evening and sharing the village traditional evening meal, this can be arranged at an additional cost of N$ 250.00 per person. You should be back in Katima Mulilo by 8h30.
